A responsibly led company

Our sustainability work continues

We are actively developing Leipurin sustainability work and continuing our journey of sustainable development, which Leipurin has been on since our foundation in 1917.

For a long time, our focus has been especially on food safety, reducing waste, supplier evaluations and developing a responsible product assortment.

Now, along with recent regulation and customer needs we are actively working on CSDR, Scope 3 emission calculation and deforestation regulation.

Sustainability and regulation

CSRD and sustainability reporting
  • Leipurin operates as part of the Swedish Lantmännen Group and develops its sustainability efforts in line with EU sustainability regulation. The EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires companies to report on their environmental, social and governance (ESG) impacts. The directive aims to improve the transparency and comparability of sustainability-related information and to support stakeholders in assessing companies’ sustainability performance and business risks.
  • The foundation of Leipurin’s sustainability development is a double materiality assessment conducted in 2023. This assessment evaluated both the company’s impacts on the environment and society, as well as how these issues affect Leipurin’s operations. Based on the analysis, the most material sustainability topics for Leipurin were identified, forming the focus of reporting and development efforts. During 2024, Leipurin further developed its sustainability reporting in line with CSRD requirements and, for the first time, calculated all Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions for the years 2023 and 2024.
  • In March 2026, Leipurin became part of the Lantmännen Group. Leipurin’s sustainability report for 2025 was prepared prior to the change of ownership. Going forward, sustainability work will be developed as part of the Lantmännen Group and in accordance with its reporting practices.
  • The focus for 2026 is the further development of emissions calculations. In the initial phase, emission factors were calculated at product category level. The next step is to refine the methodology towards product-specific emission factors, particularly for the company’s most significant products by volume.

Preparing for the Deforestation Regulation
  • The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) aims to prevent products linked to deforestation and forest degradation from entering the EU market. The regulation applies to commodities such as palm oil, soy, wood, coffee, cocoa and rubber, as well as products derived from them. Operators must ensure that these products are not sourced from areas affected by deforestation and that they comply with the legislation of the country of origin.
  • The implementation of the EUDR has been postponed twice, and the regulation will start to apply on 30 December 2026. The transition period provides companies and authorities with additional time to prepare for the requirements and to establish practical processes and systems to meet their obligations. At the same time, clarifications and certain simplifications have been introduced to facilitate implementation, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
  • Leipurin has been preparing for the implementation of the EUDR in its role as a SME trader. To support this work, guidelines have been developed to ensure compliance with EUDR requirements, and practical implementation solutions are being evaluated in light of the updated obligations. Leipurin will ensure its readiness to comply with the regulation when it enters into force at the end of 2026.
